KHON KAEN, Thailand – Former Olympic boxing gold medalist Somrak Khamsing was sentenced to one year and 12 months in prison without suspension by the Region 4 Court of Appeal on October 20 in a case involving a 17-year-old girl in Khon Kaen.
The court amended the lower court’s ruling, acquitting Somrak of the attempted rape charge while upholding his conviction for taking a minor aged over 15 but under 18 for an indecent purpose, despite her consent to accompany him. The court also ordered him to pay an additional 80,000 baht in compensation. Somrak had previously paid 120,000 baht to the court.
The case stemmed from an incident reported in December 2023, after the girl met Somrak and another defendant at an entertainment venue in Khon Kaen. Both defendants denied the charges.
In January 2025, the trial court sentenced Somrak to a total of four years and eight months before reducing the term to two years, 13 months and 10 days, according to the original report. He was granted temporary release on bail of 300,000 baht pending appeal.
