Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chairs a disaster command meeting on October 12, ordering faster flood relief payments, infrastructure repairs and preparations for heavy rain in Southern Thailand.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command meeting on October 12, 2026, to review ongoing flood relief and recovery efforts. He ordered an immediate transition to rehabilitation in areas where floodwaters have receded, prioritizing infrastructure repairs, community cleanups, and restoring transport routes to ensure public safety.

To speed up financial relief, the Prime Minister directed agencies to simplify documentation processes. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is working with the Office of Insurance Commission, the Government Savings Bank, and relevant associations to accelerate payouts under the new government disaster insurance scheme. Effective October 1, 2026, the policy covers 30 million households and offers expedited compensation of 10,000 baht per eligible household, exceeding previous standard government relief.

In regions still affected by flooding, cabinet ministers and senior officials have been deployed to oversee operations. In Bangkok, flood management has transitioned to recovery and utility restoration. The Prime Minister also encouraged public and private sectors in the capital to maximize work-from-home arrangements to reduce traffic congestion during the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings.

With disaster situations now stabilized in many provinces, the Prime Minister stated that daily central command meetings may be reduced. The government’s operational focus will now shift to Southern Thailand, where a forward command center may be established to monitor and respond proactively to expected heavy rainfall. (NNT)
