Deputy Prime Minister Supajee Suthumpun outlines plans to balance global partnerships, build economic resilience and drive sustainable growth amid intensifying international competition.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supajee Suthumpun has proposed a three-pillar strategy to improve Thailand’s economic security amid global competition, technological advances, climate change, and demographic shifts. Speaking at the opening of the 69th National Defence Course at the National Defence College on October 8, she outlined measures to protect economic stability and support long-term growth.

The first pillar, Balancing Power, calls for diversifying export markets, expanding international partnerships, and making better use of free trade agreements. Supajee also encouraged cooperation on product development, technology, and investment, alongside reliable verification of product origins to maintain confidence in Thai exports.

The second pillar, Building Resilience, addresses economic vulnerabilities through diversified energy supplies, raw materials, and transportation routes. Other priorities include food security, protection of critical infrastructure, disaster preparedness, adequate fiscal reserves, and financial stability for households and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during crises.

The third pillar, Driving Sustainable Growth, seeks to connect international trade and investment with domestic businesses through technology transfer, workforce development, fair competition, and improved access to financing and markets. It also covers tourism, creative industries, and the transition to a low-carbon economy. Supajee called for cooperation among government, military, and business leaders, supported by shared economic data, early warning systems, and coordinated contingency plans. (NNT)
