Australian man, 82, dies after falling from 16th-floor Pattaya condo

Police and rescue workers investigate after an 82-year-old Australian man died in a fall from a Jomtien condominium on October 8.

PATTAYA, Thailand – An 82-year-old Australian man died after falling from the 16th-floor balcony of a condominium in Jomtien on the evening of October 8. Pattaya City Police received a report at 7.06 p.m. and went to the scene with volunteer rescue workers. The man was found dead on a walkway behind the building. Police inspected his room and found medication inside. There were no apparent signs of physical assault or disturbance to his belongings. A chair was also found positioned close to the balcony edge, and officers photographed the scene for evidence.


An 85-year-old resident told investigators he heard a sound like something striking the ground. Looking outside, he initially thought a rubbish bag had fallen, but discovered a person when he went to check. Security staff then attended and notified authorities. Police documented the scene and collected evidence before the body was transferred to the Police General Hospital’s forensic institute for an autopsy to establish the cause of death. The circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation.
