RAYONG, Thailand – Travellers passing through Klaeng district can stop for a taste of charcoal-grilled squid at Nai Thong Grilled Squid, a roadside stall inside a petrol station at the Ta Yai rest stop along Sukhumvit Road. The shop offers several squid treats, including large sheets of dried squid grilled over charcoal, crispy three-flavor squid, dried squid tentacles and seasoned squid. Customers can enjoy them as snacks along the way or take them home as souvenirs.
One of the shop’s signature items is its large dried squid, grilled over charcoal until fragrant before being pressed into thin sheets that are easy to eat. It is served with the shop’s seafood dipping sauce, which balances sour, spicy and sweet flavors. The crispy three-flavor squid is another popular choice, offering a crunchy texture and a balanced seasoning. Dried tentacles and other seasoned squid products provide more options for customers.

The secret behind the flavor
Thong, who runs the shop, said the process begins with grilling the squid over charcoal until it develops an inviting aroma and color. The squid is then pressed flat for a thinner, easier-to-eat texture. The shop adds its own specially developed seasoning powder before grilling the squid a second time to remove moisture and achieve its signature crispness and well-rounded flavor.
Located at the Ta Yai rest-stop area inside a petrol station on Sukhumvit Road in Klaeng district, Nai Thong Grilled Squid accepts Thai QR payments. For enquiries or orders, call 095-527-9889.
