PATTAYA, Thailand – A 37-year-old ride-hailing driver has appealed for police action after alleging that a bar owner and a group of men assaulted him twice outside a venue in Nongprue, Banglamung district, leaving him injured. The man, identified as Lee, approached the media on October 9 to seek progress in the case. He said the incident took place on August 16 at ‘I Am 90’, a bar in Soi Nongprue. He subsequently filed a complaint with an investigating officer at Nongprue Police Station.
Lee said he had visited the venue late that night to see his girlfriend. The pair argued and went outside to talk before she left for home. He acknowledged that he had spoken loudly and pulled his girlfriend away from a table where other customers were seated, which he believed may have angered people at the venue. However, he alleged that he had not argued with the bar owner or other customers before a group of men attacked him. Bystanders intervened to stop the confrontation, but Lee said he was assaulted again while returning to his car, when a man he identified as the bar owner allegedly ran over, kicked and punched him.
Lee said he was concerned that the case had made no apparent progress since he lodged his complaint. He fears the alleged attackers may have influential backing and has asked police to identify those involved and take legal action. He also called on relevant authorities to investigate whether the venue was operating without the required license, saying he was concerned about the potential risk to others. Lee said he had handed police video footage of the incident as evidence. The allegations have not been independently verified, and the case remains subject to investigation.
