BANGKOK, Thailand – Thinking about surprising someone special with a gold necklace? October 6 could be a good day to take a look, with gold prices opening 450 baht lower than the previous day.
The Gold Traders Association’s first announcement put gold jewelry at 66,700 baht per baht-weight. For shoppers who do not want to spend that much on a full baht of gold, smaller pieces offer a more affordable way to give a traditional Thai gold gift.
A half-salung piece of gold jewelry was listed at 8,337.50 baht, making it the lowest jewelry price among the sizes listed. A one-salung piece was 16,675 baht, while two salungs were 33,350 baht.
That means a small gold necklace, pendant or other piece can still be a thoughtful present for a loved one without the need to buy a full baht-weight of gold.
The prices are based on the Gold Traders Association’s first announcement at 9.07 a.m. and do not include making charges, which vary according to the design and workmanship. Gold prices can also change several times during the day. For anyone planning a special gift, checking the latest price before heading to the gold shop is a good idea.
