NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand – The United States kicked off a series of cultural events in Thailand’s northeastern hub of Nakhon Ratchasima on Friday, celebrating 250 years of American history while highlighting longstanding diplomatic and economic ties. U.S. Ambassador Sean O’Neill opened the “Freedom 250: American Fair” in Korat, describing Thailand as America’s oldest friend in Asia. The multi-day event aims to bring a traditional American state fair experience to local residents, featuring music, food, and exhibitions.

“Our defense alliance makes both our nations safer, our law enforcement partnership makes our nations stronger, and our longstanding commercial and economic ties have the potential to create untold prosperity,” O’Neill said. Korat was chosen as the starting point due to its strategic and historical significance in bilateral relations. Specifically, he underscored critical historical infrastructure links such as the construction of the Mittraphap Road (Friendship Highway) and the 200-Year Thai-American Friendship Trail in Khao Yai National Park, alongside the province’s long-standing role as a vital site for joint military exercises like Cobra Gold.

The fair features performances by a world champion local marching band, agricultural displays, and cultural exhibitions. Following the opening in Korat, the U.S. embassy plans to bring the fair events to Chiang Mai at the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization from October 16–18 and to Parc Paragon in Bangkok from October 23–25 over the next two weeks.
