BANGKOK, Thailand – Labor Minister Julapun Amornvivat has instructed the Social Security Office (SSO) to expedite assistance and verify benefit entitlements for workers and families affected by flooding. The SSO reported that 475,057.54 baht in benefits was paid during September 28–29, including funeral expenses, death assistance, and accumulated old-age benefits following the deaths of two insured members.
Those unable to reach their registered healthcare facility because of flooding may receive treatment elsewhere under SSO criteria. Patients requiring urgent medical care can seek treatment at the nearest hospital, with coverage available for up to 72 hours, excluding official public holidays and subject to applicable conditions. Anyone facing a life-threatening emergency should immediately seek care at the nearest medical facility.
Arrangements are also available for members with end-stage chronic kidney failure who require renal replacement therapy and erythropoietin medication. During a disaster, claims may be submitted beyond the normal 30-day deadline, while hemodialysis schedules can be adjusted according to medical needs. Additional dialysis expenses may be reimbursed at actual cost up to 2,000 baht per session when medically necessary, while kidney transplant recipients may receive treatment at contracted or other convenient healthcare facilities under SSO criteria.
Provincial Social Security Offices have been directed to monitor flood conditions and assist affected workers and their families. Families of members who die from non-work-related causes may also receive funeral, death, and old-age benefits according to coverage under Sections 33, 39, or 40. Information on medical care and Social Security benefits during flooding is available through the 24-hour Social Security Hotline at 1506. (NNT)
