PARIS, France – Thailand is promoting Muay Thai in France through closer cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), with a focus on raising training standards and showcasing Muay Thai as part of Thai cultural heritage. The Royal Thai Embassy in Paris and SAT recently visited Phenix Muay Thai Paris and presented the Standard Muaythai Gym (SMG) certification, recognizing overseas gyms that meet Thailand’s standards for Muay Thai instruction.
Mr. Nithiphong Kimawaha, Chief of the Muay Thai Sports Standards, Monitoring and Evaluation Section at SAT, said Paris is among the cities with strong interest in Muay Thai. He noted that cooperation with French authorities, the French Muay Thai Federation and the Thai Embassy is helping expand opportunities to learn Muay Thai for fitness, self defense and professional development. The visit also featured a Muay Thai clinic led by Thai champions and instructors, covering fundamental techniques and skills adapted to participants’ experience levels. SAT also supports international learners traveling to Thailand for Muay Thai training, attracting nearly 5,000 learners and tourists each year, while introducing them to Thai traditions such as the Wai Kru.
