PATTAYA, Thailand – A 33-year-old German man was seriously injured after falling from the second-floor balcony of a hotel in Pattaya’s Pratumnak area early Thursday morning, October 1. At about 3:16 a.m., Police Captain Sakyaphap Chaidech, deputy investigation officer at Pattaya City Police Station, was notified that a person had fallen from a height at a hotel in Soi Pratumnak 2. Police coordinated with Sawang Boriboon volunteers, who rushed to the scene.

The injured man was found lying on the ground beside the hotel. He was identified as 33-year-old Philipp Hohmann, a German national. He had suffered serious head injuries and was bleeding heavily. Rescue workers provided first aid before urgently transporting him to hospital for treatment. Bloodstains, broken branches and the man’s shoes were also found in the area where he landed.

According to a friend of the injured man, Hohmann had been sitting on the second-floor balcony of their room smoking a cigarette shortly before the incident. He was reportedly leaning back against the balcony wall when he suddenly fell backwards over the balcony. The friend immediately informed hotel staff and called for assistance.

A 52-year-old hotel receptionist, identified as Daeng, said Hohmann had been staying on the second floor with a friend of the same nationality. After being told that a guest had fallen from the second floor, she immediately contacted emergency services. Police and investigators subsequently inspected the room where Hohmann had been staying. No signs of a struggle or other obvious abnormalities were found inside.

Officers did find broken glass, cannabis and equipment used for smoking cannabis in the room. The items were photographed and recorded as evidence. Police are questioning Hohmann’s friend and examining other evidence to establish exactly what happened before the fall. The investigation remains ongoing.
