RAYONG, Thailand – Residents in parts of Rayong were ordered to evacuate on Monday, September 28, after local authorities reported serious damage at Khlong Raok Reservoir, also known as Khao Juk Dam, and warned that large volumes of water could move into surrounding communities.
The Thung Khwai Kin Subdistrict Administrative Organization issued an urgent evacuation notice, saying cracks had appeared in the reservoir wall and the spillway structure had been damaged. Residents in vulnerable areas were told to leave within one hour and move valuables to higher ground.
The warning covered Thung Khwai Kin in Klaeng district and Nam Pen in Khao Chamao district, with Kong Din and Khlong Pun also identified as areas that could be affected by the flow of water.
Three evacuation locations were announced: Wat Chumnum Sung, Chamnan Samakkhi Wittaya School and Wat Noen Sombun. The Klaeng District Agriculture Office also warned residents along the main and nearby waterways, particularly those living in surrounding low-lying areas, to prepare for incoming water and move valuables to higher ground.
According to the local warning, Thung Khwai Kin was expected to receive the main flow from the damaged section of the reservoir. Residents in potentially affected areas should continue following instructions and updates from local authorities as officials monitor the reservoir and downstream water levels.
