BANGKOK, Thailand — A man died after reportedly shooting at firefighters who responded to a house fire in Soi Charat Lap, Sirindhorn Road, Bang Phlat district, on September 25. The Bangkok Fire and Rescue Radio Centre received a report of the fire at around 9:27 a.m., with an initial report that someone could be trapped inside the building. Firefighters from Bang O Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene to extinguish the blaze and search for anyone inside.
As firefighters entered the house to tackle the fire and search for survivors, several gunshots were fired from inside. The crews immediately withdrew to a safe distance and police were called to secure the area.
Authorities subsequently reported finding a cache of weapons inside the house, including two M60 machine guns, a Desert Eagle handgun and a large number of suspected explosive devices. Police, special operations officers and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel cordoned off Soi Charat Lap and declared the area dangerous, preventing unauthorized people from entering. The man was later found dead inside the house after reportedly shooting himself.
Police, forensic officers and EOD personnel are conducting a detailed inspection of the property and working to secure the suspected explosives. Authorities are also investigating the origin of the weapons and the circumstances surrounding the incident. The man’s possible motive and what led to the incident remain under investigation.
