BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt has signed an order declaring all 50 districts of the capital disaster-affected areas following continued heavy rain, expanding an earlier declaration covering three districts. The declaration took effect on September 25 allowing government agencies, authorities and local administrative organisations to enter affected areas and carry out relief and flood-management operations more quickly and systematically.
The earlier declaration covered Nong Chok, Suan Luang and Khan Na Yao districts. The expanded order now covers the entire Bangkok metropolitan area. The decision follows continued heavy rainfall that has caused flooding, traffic disruption and difficulties for residents in several parts of Bangkok. Authorities said the situation could pose risks to lives and cause damage to public and private property.
Operations will be conducted under Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Act B.E. 2550, the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Plan 2021–2027 and the Bangkok Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Plan 2021–2027, along with other relevant laws, regulations and government orders.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will continue monitoring rainfall and flooding closely and coordinate with relevant agencies to reduce the impact and provide assistance to residents across the capital.
