BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has stepped up drainage operations after heavy overnight rain caused flooding in parts of the capital, with eastern Bangkok under close watch. The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms across 80% of Bangkok and surrounding areas on Sep 25, with heavy to very heavy rain possible in some locations. Min Buri recorded the highest overnight rainfall at 99 millimeters, followed by Khlong Sam Wa, Lat Krabang, and Sai Mai. Water levels have risen in several major canals, including the Prawet Burirom Canal, prompting the BMA to accelerate drainage through the Phra Khanong Pumping Station and the Phra Ong Chao Chaiyanuchit Canal toward Chachoengsao.
Standing water has been reported on On Nut Road at Soi 59, Suwinthawong Road, Luang Phaeng Road, and King Kaeo Road, where it reached depths of about 15 to 20 centimeters. At Pak Khlong Talat, the Chao Phraya River was about 0.88 meters above mean sea level, with a discharge rate of approximately 1,900 cubic meters per second. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt reported that authorities are closely monitoring forecasts and operating drainage systems at full capacity. Residents are advised to check weather and traffic conditions before traveling, allow extra time, avoid routes with high water levels, and follow official updates as further rainfall is expected.
