BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s national bodybuilding and fitness team is targeting 10 gold medals at the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships, which begin in Bangkok on September 25. The three-day championship runs from September 25–27 at the Alexander Hotel in Huamark, with athletes from 25 Asian countries competing across bodybuilding and physique disciplines.
Thailand will field 34 athletes, comprising 23 men and 11 women, in bodybuilding, fitness physique, athletic physique, sports physique, swimsuit physique and model physique categories.
All Thai athletes passed the official weigh-in and height checks ahead of the competition, meeting the requirements for their respective categories.
Thai national team coach Suwaroj “Coach Kaew” Rekhachalermphat said the team was well prepared and expected to challenge for medals throughout all three days. Thailand is targeting five gold medals on the opening day, particularly in the youth fitness and ladies’ master categories, with the overall goal of reaching 10 golds by the end of the championships. “Thai athletes are in contention for gold medals every day,” Suwaroj said.
He identified India and Vietnam among the countries bringing large numbers of competitors, while noting that Thailand would face strong opposition from leading Asian bodybuilding nations and other Southeast Asian teams. The championships feature athletes from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and hosts Thailand.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. on September 25, with competition beginning at 9 a.m. each day. All three days of competition will be broadcast live on YouTube through TBPA TV.
