PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya’s recent flooding may have eased, but the rain is not over yet, with the Thai Meteorological Department warning of heavy to very heavy rain across much of Thailand from September 25 to 27. The latest warning, issued at 5 a.m. on September 25, covers the North, lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and surrounding provinces, the East and the South. Chonburi and Pattaya are therefore still facing the possibility of further heavy rainfall over the coming days.
The TMD said a strong low-pressure area moving across the region, combined with a strengthening southwest monsoon, will bring widespread rain and periods of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
For Pattaya and other areas that have already experienced flooding, the continued rain presents another risk of water quickly accumulating on roads and in low-lying areas. The TMD warned of possible flash floods and runoff, particularly around foothills, waterways and low-lying communities.
Residents and motorists are advised to take extra care when travelling through areas where water has accumulated. Drivers should avoid flooded roads where possible, particularly if water levels are difficult to judge or currents are present.
The weather warning also extends offshore. Waves in the upper Gulf of Thailand and upper Andaman Sea are expected to reach 2–3 meters, rising above 3 meters in areas affected by thunderstorms. Small boats are advised to remain ashore through September 27. Waves in the lower Gulf and lower Andaman Sea are expected to reach around 2 meters. The latest warning comes after heavy thunderstorms already caused widespread flooding in Pattaya and Banglamung, with floodwater reaching around 50 centimeters in many areas and about 1 meter in some locations during the early hours of September 24.
With more rain now forecast, residents and businesses in flood-prone areas should remain prepared for rapidly changing conditions rather than assuming the worst of the weather has passed.
