BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Yodchanan Wongsawat opened the Global Medical AI Summit 2026 in Bangkok on September 21, presenting efforts to move Thai-developed medical AI from research into practical healthcare applications and international markets. A new program will support 44 Thai medical AI companies in meeting international standards and connecting with medical, technological, business, and investment networks.
The program is being carried out by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; the Technology and Innovation in Life Sciences National Agency; and the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneurs Association of Thailand. Participating companies will receive support throughout the development process, from research and prototyping to testing, certification, clinical applications, and commercialization, with a focus on quality, safety, ethics, and the protection of health data.
The summit examined Thailand’s potential in smart healthcare, challenges facing the medical AI industry, and opportunities for investment and overseas expansion. Yodchanan called for cooperation among healthcare professionals, researchers, technology developers, universities, businesses, government agencies, and investors to help promising technologies progress from laboratories to real-world medical and commercial use.
Fourteen of the 44 participating companies showcased medical AI products and technologies at the event. International networking, business matching, and knowledge exchange are expected to help Thai developers attract investment, establish partnerships, and expand into domestic and global healthcare markets.
