BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s national athletics team departed for Japan on September 19 to compete in the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, with athletics events scheduled from September 24 to 29. Athletics Association of Thailand President Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda has met with athletes, coaches, and officials at Suvarnabhumi Airport before departure and offered encouragement ahead of the competition.
He emphasized that the Asian Games are a valuable opportunity for athletes to showcase their abilities internationally and encouraged the team to perform at their best while representing Thailand. The Thai athletics delegation is led by team manager Pol. Maj. Gen. Naphanwut Liamsanguan and includes 32 athletes competing across track and field events.
The squad will compete in the men’s and women’s 100- and 200-meter events, 400 meters, 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays, mixed relays, high jump, pole vault, triple jump, hammer throw, and discus. Among the athletes is Puripol Boonson, who will compete in the men’s 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4×100-meter relay, alongside other national team athletes representing Thailand across the six-day athletics program. The 20th Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
