SAKON NAKHON, Thailand – The Thai National Team’s ceremonial uniforms for the 2026 Asian Games tell a story that goes beyond their appearance. Created under “The Art of Unity,” the collection combines naturally indigo-dyed cotton from the Don Koi Model with handwoven cotton from the SUPPORT Foundation, transforming generations of Thai textile knowledge into contemporary attire for athletes representing the country in Nagoya, Japan.
The story traces back to the royal work of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, whose support for traditional arts and handicrafts helped preserve weaving knowledge and community livelihoods. Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya has carried this heritage forward through the Don Koi Model, applying contemporary fashion and design to the indigo-dyeing traditions of artisans in Sakon Nakhon Province.
The Community Development Department has applied this royal guidance in its work with OTOP producers, textile artisans, and local weavers, from indigo cultivation and natural dyeing to pattern and product development. The results show how traditional craftsmanship can remain culturally relevant while creating income and opportunities for local communities.
On the Asian Games stage, the uniforms become an “Armor of Pride,” carrying Thai craftsmanship from community looms to an international audience. Every thread represents royal support, inherited knowledge, community livelihoods, and contemporary creativity, while a portion of the proceeds will also support Paralympic athletes. (NNT)
