BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) has received Nike Innovate C.V.’s World Cup 2026 IP Enforcement Appreciation Award for its efforts to combat intellectual property violations during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Operations targeted counterfeit merchandise and unauthorized broadcasts across physical and online channels.
DIP Director-General Auramon Supthaweethum reported that the department coordinated with the Economic Crime Suppression Division, Department of Special Investigation, Customs Department, and private rights holders on inspections and enforcement. Operations covered commercial areas, tourist destinations, warehouses, and import-export points, while intelligence sharing helped authorities identify broader networks involved in the infringement of World Cup-related merchandise.
The DIP also monitored unauthorized distribution and retransmission of tournament broadcasts and worked with Meta to train businesses and rights holders in using its Brand Rights Protection tool. Jasmine International Public Company Limited (JAS), which obtained FIFA’s rights to broadcast the 2026 World Cup live in Thailand, participated in training to improve the detection and removal of illegal streams and other infringing content.
The department will continue working with domestic and international partners as infringement methods evolve across physical and digital markets.
