BANGKOK, Thailand – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is continuing safety, relief, and recovery operations following the fire at Khlong Thom Center, as conditions in and around the site gradually improve. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt reported three low-temperature hotspots detected overnight. Authorities are assessing the safety of the site and nearby buildings, especially the rowhouses behind the shopping center, before permitting residents and businesses to return.
District officials are surveying damage and identifying temporary commercial spaces for affected vendors. Property owners who can offer trading space should contact the district office for coordination. The BMA has opened a One Stop Service center at Wat Phra Phiren to register affected individuals and collect information for assistance. Approximately eight vehicles are believed to remain inside the building, pending verification. The BMA will coordinate with relevant agencies, insurance companies, and the building owner on compensation procedures.
Initial assessments indicate that the main damage is at Khlong Thom Center and in approximately eight to nine units of the Sai Thong rowhouse building. Air-quality monitoring vehicles remain in the area. PM2.5 and PM10 levels were elevated early in the fire but have since improved. No toxic gases have been detected at concerning levels.
Forensic officers are investigating the cause of the fire. The suspected origin is Block 5 (Zone C), about 20 meters inside the building. Access remains restricted due to the partial collapse of the second floor onto the ground floor. Once firefighting and forensic operations are complete, the BMA will secure hazardous areas.
