SONGKHLA, Thailand – The Ministry of Education is enhancing safety measures in schools across five southern provinces. Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong emphasized that student and staff safety remains the ministry’s top priority. On August 31, the Minister visited Hatyai Wittayalai School in Songkhla to address local concerns and review education and safety measures in Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani.
The Minister identified key challenges, including security concerns, economic inequality, limited digital access, and student dropouts. He directed schools to implement seven safety measures, including emergency preparedness and drills, mental health support, collaboration with police and medical staff, parental involvement, and stricter controls within School Safety Zones.
These measures address both external and internal threats, including cyber risks. Schools must prevent dangerous items such as weapons, explosives, and drugs from entering school premises.
The ministry also promoted the Traffy EDU application as a platform for reporting incidents and seeking assistance related to violence, harassment, mental health, digital threats, disasters, and other safety concerns.
The Minister outlined five education policy priorities under the “All for Education” initiative: reducing teachers’ administrative workload, addressing inequality, strengthening future skills including AI, ensuring safe schools, and reforming the national education system. (NNT)
