BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports has launched a tech-driven safety initiative with the Tourist Police Bureau, deploying drones and mobile command units to strengthen safety for foreign visitors, officials said on Friday. Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul inspected the new equipment, which includes 128 drones, 32 surveillance vehicles, and 4 mobile command buses. The gear will be distributed across 32 tourist police stations nationwide to enable faster emergency responses and enhanced area monitoring.
Police units were also equipped with 1,250 patrol kits, 450 stun guns, and 900 automated translation devices to improve real-time communication with foreign tourists. The minister also visited the 1155 Tourist Police Command and Emergency Call Center, which operates 24/7 and supports eight languages. Surasak emphasized that safety remains a primary consideration for international travelers choosing destinations. The government plans to continue integrating modern technology into its security apparatus to raise safety standards and support the tourism sector. (TNA)
