SATTAHIP, Thailand – Sattahip residents and business operators around Wat Sattahip and Sattahip Market in Chonburi have raised concerns over a homeless man who allegedly becomes heavily intoxicated and verbally abuses residents and tourists, prompting the Sattahip mayor to order municipal officers to address the problem.
The complaints were received on August 25 after the man was reportedly seen repeatedly sleeping near the entrance of Wat Sattahip, a busy area used by both local residents and visitors.
Witnesses said the man frequently appears intoxicated and has allegedly shouted insults at people passing through the area. His behavior has left some residents and tourists feeling uneasy and reluctant to approach the area.
Local shop operators said the situation has also affected businesses around the market, with fewer customers visiting amid concerns about the disturbance and the overall atmosphere in the area.
Following the complaints, Sattahip Mayor Wasan Chiangchi ordered municipal officers to inspect the area and take immediate steps to address the situation. Officials spoke with the man and began handling the case according to the relevant procedures, with an emphasis on providing appropriate assistance while preventing further disruption to residents, businesses and tourists.
The area around Wat Sattahip and Sattahip Market is an important local commercial and community zone, with restaurants, shops and other businesses serving residents and visitors.
Residents and business operators welcomed the municipality’s quick response but urged authorities to continue monitoring the situation to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
They said maintaining a safe and welcoming environment around the market and temple is important for both the local community and Sattahip’s tourism atmosphere.
