BANGKOK, Thailand – Police General Hospital has opened a new Heart Center and a Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, Tropical Diseases and Tuberculosis, in Bangkok, located on Rama I Road in Pathum Wan District, near the Royal Thai Police Headquarters, marking a major step in strengthening its medical services and readiness for future health challenges.
Police General Commissioner Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet presided over the opening ceremony at the hospital, joined by senior police and medical officials, including acting Police General Hospital chief physician Pol. Lt. Gen. Paiboon Chiamanukulkit. The two centers are designed to expand specialized medical care for police officers, their families and members of the public, while improving the hospital’s capacity to respond to increasingly complex health challenges.
The Heart Center will serve as a specialized center for the diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive care of patients with heart disease. It will use modern medical equipment and technology and be staffed by specialist physicians, with the aim of improving access to quality treatment, reducing mortality and improving patients’ quality of life.
The Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, Tropical Diseases and Tuberculosis will focus on surveillance, prevention, control and responses to public health emergencies involving infectious diseases. It will also promote research, medical innovation and cooperation with domestic and international organizations to strengthen Thailand’s preparedness for future outbreaks.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat said the Royal Thai Police’s responsibilities extend beyond maintaining public order and enforcing the law. The organization also has an important role in protecting the welfare, quality of life and health security of police officers, their families and the public.
He expressed confidence that the two new centers would become important hubs for medical knowledge, innovation and specialized treatment, providing services to police personnel, their families and the wider public to international standards.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Paiboon said Thailand is facing increasingly complex health challenges, including non-communicable diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, as well as emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases that could have widespread impacts.
He said strengthening medical personnel, technology, knowledge and efficient healthcare systems is therefore an important priority for Police General Hospital and other relevant sectors.
The opening of the two centers is expected to strengthen Police General Hospital’s role in providing specialized healthcare while improving the country’s preparedness for both chronic health conditions and future infectious disease emergencies. (TNA)
