BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai authorities have revoked the residency visa of a foreign visitor involved in alleged threats against a local business owner on Koh Samui, Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phanjaroenworakul said on Tuesday. Speaking before a Cabinet meeting, Surasak confirmed that the visa was canceled following reports of disruptive behavior and allegations that a bounty had been offered targeting the owner of a local zoo on the island.
The minister stated that Thailand welcomes law-abiding tourists but will strictly enforce legal measures against those who cause trouble or attempt to use the country as a platform for foreign conflicts. He added that the government reviews visa revocations on a case-by-case basis rather than imposing broad restrictions on specific nationalities.
To address ongoing issues, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is coordinating with diplomatic embassies and airlines to inform arriving travelers about local laws, traditions, and behavioral standards before entering the country. Prime Minister instructions have directed provincial authorities and tourist police to resolve related disputes swiftly. (TNA)
