BANGKOK, Thailand – The Public Relations Department (PRD) showcased its use of artificial intelligence to detect and verify false or misleading information at a regional broadcasting workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal, on August 24, presenting technology designed to enable faster, more accurate fact-checking for journalists and media organizations across the digital landscape.
PRD’s AI specialist, Dr. Watcharatiya Watcharobol, represented Thailand as an invited speaker at the workshop, organized by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) and the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Nepal (ACORAB). The PRD official presented practical applications of AI and generative AI for analyzing information and supporting newsroom verification.
Dr. Watcharatiya also introduced Fake News Deep Verify, an AI-powered platform capable of real-time fact-checking in Thai and English. The system combines large language models, web-based information retrieval, multimodal analysis, and evidence-based verification to help media professionals assess content efficiently and support findings with relevant evidence.
Participants from across the region exchanged experiences on using AI to counter misinformation and improve media verification. Dr. Watcharatiya, who previously won the top award at the international Global iSAFE Hackathon, also presented the PRD’s capabilities in applying emerging technology to modern media operations and reliable public information.
