Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi has directed PRD and MCOT to provide accurate flood updates, warnings and emergency information to the public.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi has instructed the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) and MCOT Public Company Limited to deliver ongoing, verified updates on flooding in Nan Province. This directive follows increased rainfall and runoff, which have placed the province under heightened surveillance, especially from August 19 to 20.

The Minister instructed the PRD to establish the Nan Joint Information Center (JIC Nan) to coordinate crisis communications with local authorities. The center will provide accurate information, minimize confusion from unverified reports, and issue updates twice daily at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., along with immediate warnings for heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides.

As of August 19, Nan Deputy Governor Banjong Khunpetch reported that floods have affected the Pua, Santi Suk, and Mae Charim districts. Pua district is the most severely affected, with over 16,000 residents across 8,000 households. Local authorities have set up an incident command center and seven evacuation zones, supported by royal and local relief kitchens. Crown Prince Pua Hospital is fully prepared to manage medical emergencies.

The public can access PRD updates via NBT2HD, Radio Thailand FM 92.5, and the Facebook pages of the Nan Provincial Public Relations Office and the PRD. MCOT coverage is available on Channel 9 MCOT HD, Thai News Agency, its nationwide radio network, and MCOT Radio Nan FM 92.0. The Minister urged all media outlets to rely on official sources and follow safety instructions issued by authorities to prevent any confusion. (NNT)
