Thailand’s Nan province records two flood deaths, with more than 16,000 people affected across seven subdistricts as floodwaters surge downstream.

NAN, Thailand – The death toll from severe flooding in Thailand’s northern Nan province has risen to two, with thousands of residents affected across Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts. Authorities reported that at least 7 subdistricts, 60 villages and 8,000 households, affecting more than 16,000 people, have been impacted by the flooding. The first victim was a bedridden patient who was unable to help himself. The victim was swept from a home in Sila Phet subdistrict, Pua district, by rapidly rising floodwaters.

The second victim, a man believed to be around 45–50 years old, was found dead in floodwaters in Tha Wang Pha district after rescue teams entered the area to evacuate residents. Flood levels in Pua have begun to recede, but large volumes of water are now moving downstream toward Tha Wang Pha, putting communities along the Nan River and nearby waterways at risk of further flash flooding.

Authorities have issued red-level flood warnings for Chiang Yuen village in Yom subdistrict and Na Tao village in Rim subdistrict, where water levels continue to rise. Flooding has also made part of the lower Woranakhon Road near Tha Wang Pha Market impassable. Emergency teams have evacuated four vulnerable residents, including bedridden patients, from a critical area in Fai Mun village. Flooding has also been reported in Nan’s Santisuk and Mae Charim districts, with authorities continuing to monitor water levels and assist residents in high-risk areas.

Floodwaters recede in Pua but surge toward Tha Wang Pha, prompting red alerts and emergency evacuations in vulnerable riverside communities.
