BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is advancing plans for the “Thai Tiew Thai Plus” tourism program to encourage domestic travel and spending while helping tourism businesses cope with rising operating costs, with smaller operators and local communities expected to benefit. Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul chaired a public-private sector meeting on August 10 to discuss the program following consultations with the Ministry of Finance. The talks involved eligibility requirements, the implementation period, and possible government subsidies for accommodation costs.
The program would combine economic stimulus with support for tourism operators by encouraging Thais to travel and spend within the country. The government also wants tourism revenue to reach local businesses, community enterprises, and smaller operators, generating broader economic activity in tourism destinations. Details, including subsidy rates, eligibility rules, and the program period, are still being finalized.
