NONTHABURI, Thailand – Forensic examinations have confirmed that all eight people who died in the Nonthaburi school shooting suffered fatal gunshot wounds, with investigators continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of the 14-year-old suspect. Pol. Maj. Gen. Wirun Supasinghsiripreecha, Commander of the Police Forensic Science Institute at Police General Hospital, said on August 8 that all eight bodies had been transferred to the institute for examination.
Five victims died at the school, two others died at the suspect’s family home, and the 14-year-old suspect died after being taken to Bang Kruai Hospital. Preliminary autopsies found that all eight had suffered gunshot wounds. Six victims had one gunshot wound each, while two others had three and four wounds respectively. The forensic examination found that the wounds were consistent with injuries caused by a firearm. Several victims had injuries involving vital areas of the body, while some also had wounds to their arms.
The suspect was found to have suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. The bullet passed through the body, and no bullet was recovered. Forensic officers also found gunshot residue around the wound, indicating that the firearm was discharged at close range. However, Pol. Maj. Gen. Wirun stressed that the forensic examination alone could not determine whether the suspect was killed during a police operation. The examination can establish the nature of the injury and its consistency with the firearm involved, while the question of whether the death resulted from police action must be determined by investigators after reviewing all available evidence.
Most bullets associated with the victims had passed through their bodies, while one bullet was recovered from a victim. Toxicology testing on the 14-year-old suspect is still underway. The forensic examinations have now been completed, and authorities have begun releasing the bodies to families who have completed the required documentation. Officials expect the remaining families to be able to collect the bodies for religious ceremonies once the necessary procedures are completed. Police continue to investigate the shooting, including the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
