PATTAYA, Thailand – Egg prices have increased again after four major egg farmer cooperatives announced a 20-satang-per-egg rise in the farm-gate price, taking the price from 3.80 baht to 4 baht per egg effective August 7. The increase is equivalent to 6 baht per 30-egg tray and marks the second consecutive price rise in just over a month. The four cooperatives involved are the Chachoengsao Egg Farmers Cooperative, Chonburi Egg Farmers Cooperative, Chiang Mai-Lamphun Egg Farmers Cooperative and Lower Noi River Egg Farmers Cooperative. The latest adjustment follows a previous increase on July 6, when the farm-gate price rose from 3.60 baht to 3.80 baht per egg.
Following that increase, the Department of Internal Trade under the Ministry of Commerce invited representatives of the four cooperatives to discuss the reasons behind the higher prices.
The cooperatives cited rising production costs and hot weather, which has reduced egg production and increased the financial burden on farmers. Feed, energy and farm management costs have all risen since March, they said.
After discussions with the cooperatives, the Department of Internal Trade agreed to the July price increase, with the understanding that prices would be reduced if production costs improved.
Farmers had also indicated that egg prices were expected to fall from August. Instead, the latest announcement brings another 20-satang increase. The new farm-gate price of 4 baht per egg took effect on August 7, adding further pressure to egg prices at the consumer level. The Department of Internal Trade is expected to continue monitoring egg prices and production costs to assess the impact on consumers and ensure that price adjustments remain justified by market conditions.
