NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Thailand – A 19-year-old man was critically injured during his first day at a shooting range in Nakhon Ratchasima, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police from Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station were alerted at around 1 p.m. on August 6, 2026, after receiving a report of a seriously injured person at the Suranaree Army Camp shooting range under the 2nd Army Area in Mueang district.
Officers, forensic investigators and military personnel arrived at the scene to examine the area and collect evidence. The injured man, identified only as Mr A, 19, from Nong Chok district in Bangkok, was found with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. The bullet remained lodged, and emergency responders rushed him to Suranaree Camp Hospital, where he remains in critical condition under medical care.
Initial police information indicated that the young man had travelled to the shooting range alone and had applied for annual membership on the same day. He had received firearms instruction from a range instructor and had already completed part of his practice session before the incident occurred. Police said evidence from the scene, including firearm-related items and CCTV footage, is being examined to establish the exact sequence of events. Investigators are also questioning the instructor, shooting range staff and relatives as part of the inquiry.
Pol. Col. Sirichai Srichaiyapanya, chief of Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station, said authorities had contacted the victim’s family, including his father in Chachoengsao province, who had been informed of the situation. Police said no clear motive or explanation has been established at this stage, and further investigation is continuing to determine the cause of the incident.
