BANGKOK, Thailand – Moving into Grade 7 is a major turning point for students and often creates pressure for parents trying to choose the “best” school for their children. The popular education page “Khanit Kru Heem” recently shared advice urging parents to look beyond school reputations and focus on finding the learning environment that best matches their child’s abilities, personality and goals. The page highlighted five major pathways for students entering Mathayom 1 (Grade 7), explaining that each route suits different types of learners. The first option is Princess Chulabhorn Science High School, which is designed for students with strong science and mathematics abilities who are ready for a more intensive academic environment, including boarding school life.
The second is Gifted programs, which are suitable for academically outstanding students who want advanced learning opportunities while continuing to live at home. The third option is English Program (EP), recommended for students with a strong English foundation who can use the language effectively, rather than students who are still struggling with basic English skills. The fourth pathway is Demonstration Schools (Satit schools), which have highly competitive admissions and attract students with broad academic interests, strong problem-solving skills and adaptability across subjects.
The fifth option is the regular classroom program, which the page described as a valuable choice that gives students more time and space to explore their interests without excessive academic pressure.
The education page stressed that there is no single “best school” for every child. Instead, the goal should be finding the school that fits the student best, helping them maintain confidence, motivation and happiness throughout their three years of junior high school. Parents were advised to honestly assess their child’s readiness while also considering family factors such as budget, travel time and daily routines.
The page also suggested planning according to the admission calendar, which typically begins with Princess Chulabhorn Science High School examinations in August, followed by other special programs and regular admissions between January and March. Choosing the right path based on a child’s strengths, rather than simply chasing a famous school name, can help students grow with confidence and reach their full potential.
