BANGKOK, Thailand – A 27-year-old woman has warned shoppers after claiming she encountered a man behaving suspiciously and allegedly attempting to record under her skirt at a shopping mall in Bangkok’s Bang Khae district, July 30. The woman shared a video and account on social media, saying the incident happened while she was shopping at The Mall Bang Khae. She said she noticed a middle-aged man repeatedly following her and acting suspiciously, including appearing to use his mobile phone near her legs in a way that made her believe he was attempting to record images under her skirt.
She said she tried to move away and change locations several times, but the man continued following her. Feeling uncomfortable, she entered a clinic inside the mall to seek help and informed staff, who then contacted security personnel to investigate. Mall staff reviewed CCTV footage from the area and found images showing the man sitting down and appearing to place his phone underneath a display shelf in a manner consistent with the woman’s complaint. The mall then invited the man for questioning and checked his mobile phone. However, no photos or videos related to the incident were found on the device. The woman and staff suspected the information may have been deleted before the phone was checked, although no evidence was available to confirm this.
During discussions with mall officials, the man apologized but denied recording any images. He reportedly claimed he was playing the Pokémon mobile game at the time and had no intention of filming anyone. He also said he worked as a doctor. The woman said she has not yet filed a police complaint or made an official report because there is currently no clear evidence from the phone to prove a criminal offense. Instead, she decided to share her experience online as a warning to other shoppers, especially women, urging people to remain alert and immediately contact mall staff or police if they encounter suspicious behavior.
