BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul welcomed Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys to Government House on July 27, 2026. This marked the first visit by a Lithuanian foreign minister to Thailand in 22 years. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. Anutin stated that the visit would create new momentum for government, business, and people-to-people relations. Lithuania expressed its intention to deepen engagement with Thailand, ASEAN, and the Indo-Pacific region, and invited the Prime Minister to visit Lithuania.
The Prime Minister and the Lithuanian Foreign Minister agreed that bilateral trade is below its potential. Thailand highlighted its food and processed agricultural sectors, while Lithuania emphasized its strengths in advanced technology, digital services, and innovation. Enhanced cooperation could create new supply chains and investment opportunities linking Thailand with European and Baltic markets. The Prime Minister requested Lithuania’s support for the Thailand–EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations and Thailand’s OECD accession. Lithuania confirmed its support and offered to share its accession experience.
Discussions included cybersecurity, data centers, smart grids, energy technology, digital infrastructure, medical technology, research, and STEM education. Lithuania invited Thailand to an international life sciences and innovation conference next year and proposed a memorandum of understanding between the two countries’ innovation agencies. Both sides also explored cooperation in electric vehicles, food technology, research commercialization, and exchanges among universities, researchers, businesses, and startups. The Prime Minister stated that Thailand is ready to turn these discussions into practical cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties in trade, investment, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
