BUENG KAN, Thailand – Thailand has recorded its first-ever sighting of the Laotian Leaf-nosed Bat (Hipposideros rotalis), discovered in the Hin Sam Wan Recreational Forest Area in Bueng Kan Province, announced Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suchart Chomklin. The species was identified during a biodiversity survey led by the Forest Research and Development Bureau under the Royal Forest Department, with support from Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI). Until now, the bat had only ever been recorded in Laos.
Royal Forest Department Director-General Nikorn Sirarotchananon said the discovery underscores the rich biodiversity of the Hin Sam Wan Recreational Forest Area and offers valuable scientific data to support ongoing conservation efforts. The Royal Forest Department remains committed to advancing biodiversity research and safeguarding Thailand’s natural resources for generations to come. (PRD)
