PATTAYA, Thailand – The Mybar Golf Society enjoyed two enjoyable outings this week despite small fields, with players taking on the challenges of Greenwood and Pleasant Valley under contrasting weather conditions.
On Tuesday, July 14, five determined golfers teed it up at Greenwood, playing the A and B loops. Overcast skies and a refreshing breeze provided ideal playing conditions, while members were impressed by the extensive renovations around the clubhouse and facilities, which have significantly enhanced the venue.
Although the course played long and the greens were below their usual standard, making scoring difficult, the round was enjoyed by everyone. Neil Harvey produced the best performance of the day with an excellent 38 Stableford points. Nigel Irving finished second on 33 points after winning a countback against Willem Lasonder. No nearest-the-pin contests or spoon were awarded.
Two days later, on Thursday, July 16, another field of five tackled Pleasant Valley. Attendance remained low after several regular English golfers stayed away following a disappointing football result the previous evening.
The round began under cloudy skies before bright sunshine emerged around midday, creating hot and testing conditions. The course was in reasonable shape but lived up to its reputation as a demanding layout, with no player able to match their handicap. David Lyon claimed top honours with a steady round of 33 Stableford points, while John Dean finished just one point behind in second place with 32.
