Princess Anne’s Thailand visit showcases cooperation in education, science and culture

Princess Anne visits Chulalongkorn and Mahidol universities to recognize UK-Thailand collaboration in science, women in STEM, and global health research.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, visited Thailand from July 16th to 17th in her fourth official visit to the Kingdom. The visit began at Chumchon Mooban Pattana School, where Princess Anne launched a new sports development program by the Liverpool Football Club Foundation. The event also highlighted the work of Save the Children, reflecting the Princess’s long-standing commitment to supporting children’s welfare and education.

The Princess met Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and attended engagements with members of the Thai Royal Family. She also joined the British Embassy’s celebration of the birthday of His Majesty King Charles III, where she emphasized the importance of the enduring friendship and cooperation between the United Kingdom and Thailand.



On the second day, Princess Anne highlighted growing collaboration in science, innovation and global health through visits to Chulalongkorn and Mahidol universities. At Chulalongkorn University, she met Thai women innovators supported by UK initiatives and presented the Women in STEM awards. At Mahidol University, she attended the launch of the UK–ASEAN Health Security Partnership in Thailand, met researchers tackling antimicrobial resistance and climate-related health challenges, and visited the Mahidol–Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit.

The visit concluded with engagements celebrating the shared cultural heritage of both nations. At the National Museum Bangkok, Princess Anne viewed historic artifacts that reflect the long diplomatic relationship between the United Kingdom and Thailand, including the original Bowring Treaty. She later attended a Royal Variety performance at the National Theatre, showcasing British and Thai performing arts. (NNT)
