PATTAYA, Thailand – Five people were injured after a modified pickup truck crashed into the rear of a passenger van on the Krathing Lai elevated road during the early hours of July 16. Banglamung Police received a report of the collision at around 3 a.m. on the inbound route toward Pattaya. Rescue volunteers from the Sawang Boriboon rushed to the scene to assist those involved. Police found an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck that had struck the rear of a Toyota Commuter van, leaving the back of the van heavily damaged.
The pickup truck was driven by a 38-year-old man, with a 46-year-old passenger seated beside him. The van was carrying three people, including the 35-year-old driver and two passengers aged 35 and 34. Among those travelling in the van was a passenger with a disability, who was reported to be safe after the crash. All five people involved sustained injuries and were taken for medical attention.
A relative of the van passengers told police that the group had finished selling goods at Rong Po Market and was travelling back toward Pattaya. The vehicles were travelling together when they suddenly heard a loud impact from behind and stopped to check, discovering that the pickup truck had crashed into the van.
A road maintenance worker at the scene told police that he saw the pickup truck travelling at high speed in what appeared to be an unsafe manner before losing control and striking the rear of the van. Police documented evidence at the scene and moved both vehicles to Banglamung Police Station for further examination. The injured parties were advised to receive medical treatment before further questioning. Police said the pickup driver appeared confused and gave unclear responses, and officers took him for additional investigation. Authorities will continue investigating the cause of the crash and take further action in accordance with the law.
