Thailand has extended Social Security Board election registration until July 20, giving millions of eligible workers and employers more time to sign up before September’s vote.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The government is urging eligible employers and insured workers to register for the upcoming Social Security Board election, with July 20 set as the extended registration deadline. The election will be held on September 27 to select representatives of employers and insured individuals to serve on the Social Security Board. Deputy Government Spokesperson Patdarasm Thongsaluaykorn said the Social Security Office has accepted voter registrations since June 1, with about one million people registering so far. The registration period was extended from the original July 15 deadline to encourage greater participation among more than 11 million eligible insured persons and over 400,000 eligible employers.

Eligible voters include insured persons under Sections 33, 39, and 40 of the Social Security Act, as well as employers registered under the Social Security system. Each voter may cast ballots for up to seven representatives within their respective constituency. The election gives employers and insured workers an opportunity to help form policies, oversee benefit programs, and participate in managing the Social Security Fund, which has assets exceeding 2.9 trillion baht. Eligible voters can register online through the Social Security Office’s website or the SSO Plus mobile application, which has been upgraded to support higher user demand. (NNT)
