SATUN, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn led a delegation to Satun province on July 4, 2026, to review progress on the Tanyong Po Pier construction project in Tanyong Po subdistrict, Mueang Satun district. The project aims to establish a new marine tourism gateway for Satun, connecting the town with major island destinations and supporting local economic growth. Deputy Minister of Transport Sanphet Bunyamanee, Deputy Minister of Interior Worasit Liangprasit, Satun Governor Khanit Khongchuai, transport officials, Marine Department executives, local leaders, members of parliament, and residents also participated in the visit.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Satun has significant potential due to its world-class marine attractions, such as Tarutao National Park, the Adang Islands, Ko Lipe, and Ko Khai. Enhanced transport infrastructure will better connect these destinations to the town and help distribute tourism income to local businesses and communities. The Marine Department has allocated 30 million baht from the fiscal year 2027 budget for the project. The initial phase includes constructing a pier bridge of at least 150 meters, with a water depth of about one meter at the end during the lowest tide, enabling speedboats to dock at all times. Signing and construction are scheduled between December 2026 and January 2027.
The pier design will reflect Satun’s identity by combining Malay-style patterns with ammonite motifs representing the Satun UNESCO Global Geopark. Upon completion, the pier is expected to support travel to Ko Lipe, Tarutao, Adang, Ko Khai, San Lang Mangkon, and potentially Langkawi in Malaysia.
The Ministry of Transport is also developing land transport links from Sadao district in Songkhla through Baroi to the Khuan Kalong Industrial Estate in Satun, which could reduce travel distance by approximately 60 kilometers. (NNT)
