Bangkok plans canal-side revamp around Rattanakosin Island

Officials met in Bangkok to advance royal initiative projects aimed at improving canal-side communities around Rattanakosin Island and preparing volunteer activities in honor of His Majesty the King.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office attended a meeting to discuss enhancing the quality of life for canal-side communities around Rattanakosin Island and preparing for royal volunteer activities in honor of His Majesty the King. The meeting, which took place on June 22, 2026, at Bangkok City Hall in Phra Nakhon district, was co-chaired by  Maj. Gen. Parin Ruenpakwut, Officer Attached to the Royal Secretariat of His Majesty the King, and Auttapol Rerkpiboon, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Chair of the Committee for Monitoring and Driving Royal Initiative Projects in Line with His Majesty’s Royal Guidance.



​Participants included representatives from the Royal Household agencies, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, Khropkhrua Khonsong Co., Ltd., and CH. Karnchang Public Company Limited. Permanent Secretary Yupha Taweewattanakitborvon designated Deputy Permanent Secretary Nopporn Boonkaew, Advisor Yongyuth Suthichuen, and representatives from the Public Sector Volunteer Center under the Prime Minister’s Office to attend the meeting.


Prior to the meeting, participants surveyed the area, beginning with a briefing at Santichaiprakarn Park. They traveled by boat along the canal to Pom Mahakan Pier, then inspected the areas around Rattanakosin Island before convening at Bangkok City Hall. The Office of the Permanent Secretary reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with all sectors to advance royal initiative projects and volunteer activities in line with His Majesty’s royal guidance. The focus remains on improving quality of life, conserving and restoring the urban landscape, promoting sustainable community development, and encouraging broad public participation. (NNT)
