Thailand reinforces consumer protection efforts

Deputy Agriculture Minister Piyarat Tiyapairat led World Food Safety Day activities promoting higher food standards and consumer confidence.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) held a seminar and public awareness activities in Bangkok to observe World Food Safety Day 2026, with Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Piyarat Tiyapairat leading a declaration to advance Thailand’s food safety system. Held under the theme “From Burden to Solutions—Safe Food Everywhere,” the event addressed food safety as a growing global issue and a key factor in consumer purchasing decisions. Piyarat said the ministry is promoting five high-value agricultural sectors and advancing good agricultural practices and organic standards to improve production and add value to farm products.



The deputy minister presented 11 awards to certified enterprises and organizations, including retailers, certification bodies, organic retailers, and a wholesale market. She also toured exhibitions and joined activities on selecting, cleaning, storing, and preparing safe food. ACFS Secretary-General Chaiwat Yothakol said the event sought to raise public awareness and encourage exchanges of experience on food safety in line with international standards. Activities included a World Food Safety Day presentation, live broadcasts from regions across the country, and exhibitions on agricultural commodities and food standards. (NNT)
