Agriculture Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit visited Suphan Buri to promote low-carbon rice farming, showcasing smart irrigation, drones, and precision agriculture under a pilot program across central provinces.

SUPHAN BURI, Thailand – Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Suriya Jungrungreangkit visited Suphan Buri Province on June 17, to promote low-carbon agricultural practices as part of a pilot program in eight central provinces. During his visit to the Modern Large-Scale Rice Farming Community Enterprise in Doem Bang Subdistrict, Doem Bang Nang Buach District, the Minister met with local farming collectives to discuss regional agricultural challenges and reviewed modern cultivation exhibitions.

The Minister observed demonstrations of alternate wetting and drying (AWD) water management systems for low-carbon rice production, specialized rice varieties, and local processing methods. The visit also included displays of automated direct-seeding machinery, drone-assisted sowing, and automated water-level sensors for precise irrigation. The Doem Bang large-scale farming community is a leader in environmentally friendly rice production, integrating climate-smart technologies that support national greenhouse gas reduction goals. As the model is recognized as Thailand’s first and only global warming reduction learning center for agriculture, the Department of Rice is using this to expand low-carbon farming across 50,000 rai in central provinces and Bangkok, supporting the transition to a sustainable green economy.
