
NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn presided over the opening of a four-lane road connecting Highway No. 4103 and Phutthaphum Road in Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The project aims to improve transport connectivity, reduce urban traffic, and support tourism and the southern economy. The opening ceremony took place on June 13, 2026, and was attended by Nakhon Si Thammarat Governor Somchai Leelanoi, Department of Rural Roads Director-General Pichit Hunsiri, local parliament members, senior officials, and members of the public.
Phiphat stated that the Ministry of Transport has directed the Department of Rural Roads to continue developing transport infrastructure nationwide. These efforts aim to support economic growth, lower energy costs and travel time, and strengthen transport networks to meet public needs. The new road is expected to enhance travel, logistics, and tourism in Nakhon Si Thammarat. It will help ease congestion in the municipal area, improve traffic flow to outer districts, and facilitate travel for both Thai and international visitors. The road also offers a key link to the province’s religious and cultural tourism sites, particularly Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, which is being considered for UNESCO World Heritage status.
The project consists of a four-kilometer section from Highway No. 4103 at kilometer 0+000 to Phutthaphum Road at kilometer 4+000. The four-lane concrete road features 3.25-meter-wide lanes, shoulders ranging from 1 to 3 meters, an irrigation canal as the median, a 390-meter railway overpass, and five U-turn points. The total budget was 528.969 million baht. The road is expected to support urban expansion, public transportation, and future tourism growth in the province. (NNT)
