Thailand and Vietnam signed new tourism agreements in Hanoi to boost visitor numbers, improve connectivity, and strengthen travel cooperation.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has met with executives from five leading Vietnamese tourism and aviation companies during the Investment Forum & Business Forum 2026 in Hanoi, seeking to expand tourism cooperation and increase visitor flows between Thailand and Vietnam. The participating companies were VietjetAir, BenThanh Tourist, Hanoi Tourist Corporation, Vietravel, and Vietrantour. The event, held on June 9, was attended by senior Thai officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun and Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul. Discussions centered on expanding tourism links, improving connectivity, and creating new opportunities for travel and business between the two countries.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) signed agreements with the five Vietnamese partners to support joint tourism promotion, travel services, and transportation links. The cooperation is expected to help increase visitor arrivals, encourage longer stays, and attract higher-spending travelers. Officials said tourism remains a major driver of economic activity, supporting hotels, restaurants, transportation services, retail businesses, agricultural products, food exports, and locally made goods. Thailand is also placing greater attention on higher-value segments, including business events, exhibitions, and film-related travel. The agreements follow a series of high-level exchanges between Thailand and Vietnam and are expected to further expand tourism cooperation between the two countries. Authorities hope the partnerships will help restore annual Vietnamese arrivals to Thailand to more than 1 million, returning the market to its pre-pandemic level. (NNT)
