CHIANG MAI, Thailand Police officers and rescue workers carried out a dramatic rescue Thursday morning after a distraught woman threatened to jump from Chiang Mai’s Iron Bridge (Kua Lek) near Nawarat Bridge, telling authorities she could no longer cope with family pressures and heartbreak over her husband’s alleged affair. The Chiang Mai Provincial Police communications center received reports at approximately 7:40 a.m. on June 5 that a woman was standing in a dangerous position on the bridge overlooking the Ping River in Mueang district. Patrol officers from Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station and members of the Ruamjai Rescue Foundation rushed to the scene, where they found a woman estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old in a visibly distressed emotional state.

Rescuers and police immediately began talking with the woman in an effort to calm her. Authorities also arranged a video call with relatives, hoping family members could persuade her to move away from danger. During the lengthy conversation, the woman reportedly broke down in tears and spoke of several personal struggles that had left her feeling overwhelmed. She told rescuers she was deeply hurt by her husband’s alleged relationship with another woman. At the same time, she said she was carrying the responsibility of caring for her elderly father while also helping support a sister suffering from a mental illness.

According to those at the scene, the combination of emotional distress and family obligations had left her feeling exhausted and unable to see a way forward. As negotiations continued, officers waited for an opportunity to safely intervene. When the woman became momentarily distracted, police and rescue personnel quickly moved in to secure her and prevent her from coming to harm. During the rescue, the woman struggled with officers as they attempted to pull her to safety, sustaining minor facial injuries after coming into contact with the concrete surface. Rescue workers immediately provided first aid before escorting her away from the bridge.

She was later taken to Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station, where officials, rescuers, and family members continued speaking with her. Authorities said her emotional condition gradually improved after receiving support and encouragement. The incident drew attention on social media, where many praised the quick actions of police and rescue personnel whose coordinated response helped bring the tense situation to a safe conclusion. Officials continue to encourage anyone experiencing severe emotional distress to seek assistance from family members, trusted friends, healthcare professionals, or support services before problems become overwhelming.
