TV5Monde documentary showcases Isan culture, cuisine and Thai-French ties

French broadcaster TV5Monde has released a documentary highlighting Thailand’s Isan region, featuring its traditions, food, handicrafts, dinosaur discoveries, and the lives of French long-term visitors living in the Northeast.

BANGKOK, Thailand – French television channel TV5Monde produced and released a documentary about Thailand’s northeastern region, or Isan, under the title “Destination Francophonie: Thailand.” The documentary features various aspects of Isan identity, including local lifestyles, traditions, tourist attractions, cuisine, handicrafts, and even dinosaur discoveries found in the region.

The program also explores the lives of French expatriates in Isan, reflecting their perspectives on the region, as well as cultural cooperation between Thailand and France. These cooperative efforts include French-language education, the establishment of Terres d’Isan et de France (Isan and France Association) and the Thai-French Cultural Center, and an exhibition of Isan silk at the Taulignan Silk Museum.



Serving as a gateway to the Isan region, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, together with Terres d’Isan et de France and related agencies, organized an event related to the documentary. The event aimed to further promote the program, which highlights the region’s identity, culture, tourism, and local information, while also strengthening cooperation between Thailand and France.
